My name is Mike DeChellis, Owner and Manager of Hero Restoration LLC. This all started because of my love for Gold, Silver, and Bronze age comic books – and of all the classic comic book covers I find that my eye is drawn to. Those done by such greats as Kirby, Adams, and Schomburg.
Even to this day I collect low grade as well as high grade keys. It was torture to see the condition of some of them and not only was the art affected, but structurally these books were headed to an early grave. I say early not because they were made to last which they were not, but because there is so much that can be done to preserve them for an indefinite amount of time.
Having a good deal of previous experience in restoration made me a natural to start pursuing learning paper conservation and art restoration. I have devoted my life to learning all that I can do for these special treasures and feel that everything possible should be done to ensure comic books will last for future generations to enjoy. Thanks to what I have learned, and what new techniques I learn, nearly no book is un-savable, even if major parts of the cover or pages are missing.
